My goal in my spiritual work is to empower my students and clients to take charge of their lives and be the best that they can be. We are all unique spiritual beings. No one else is like you and no one else can offer the world what you can offer.
Perhaps the most famous modern quote along these lines, and what for me are some of the most inspirational words ever written, were used by Nelson Mandela in his 1994 Inaugural Speech:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson
All the great spiritual teachers have told us to do this. They have used the symbol of light to encourage us to shine brightly and be ourselves. It doesn’t matter what religion they now represent.
Let Your Light Shine and Be Yourself
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don’t light a candle and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, where it gives light to all. In the same way, let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven” – Jesus
Let Your Light Nourish Others
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” – Buddha
So go on – let your light shine!
